Kevin Hernandez – Drummer & Musician
I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up in the rich musical culture of Southern Louisiana. Surrounded by musicians, including my father, my love for music began at an early age. Although I was immersed in jazz, it wasn’t until later that I truly came to appreciate its influence on the roots of rock and roll and many other styles of music. Growing up in the '80s and '90s, my musical influences spanned across a variety of genres, all of which have shaped me into the drummer I am today.
For me, it’s always been about the song—whether playing or listening, I am captivated by the emotion that music evokes, and I try to translate that through my instrument. I love music and for better or worse I love playing drums. Over the years, I’ve blended all of my musical influences into something uniquely my own, much a good gumbo. It is this combination of experiences and sounds that has shaped my drumming style.
I’ve had the privilege of studying under some of the finest in the business, including New Orleans legend Johnny Vidacovich, Southern University's Herman Jackson, as well as Todd Sucherman, Dave Elitch, and Daniel Glass. With 25 years of professional experience, I've had the honor of sharing the stage with incredible artists and touring extensively across Texas and as far as Los Angeles. From playing to 150,000 people to performing in intimate, near empty clubs, I approach every gig with the same passion and enthusiasm.
My love for music has also led me to the studio, where I’ve played on numerous records. I’ve built strong relationships with producers, some of whom consider me their go-to drummer. Additionally, I’m proud to have endorsement partnerships with Sonor drums, Sabian cymbals, Innovative Percussion sticks, Aquarian drumheads, and the Joyful Noise drum company. These relationships have afforded me the opportunity to conduct drum clinics, something I truly enjoy.
I’ve also had the privilege of working with large congregational churches throughout Central Texas with weekly attendance in the multiple thousands. Combining my heart for people with my passion for drumming, I’m able to inspire and bring joy to others in this setting. Most importantly, I’m deeply grateful to use my gifts to bring glory to my Savior, Jesus Christ. Without Him, none of this would be possible.
